So I didn’t make it to the gym yesterday for cardio. My two-and-a-half year old saw to that by keeping me up for the better part of three hours Wednesday night. When the little ones can’t sleep, there’s not much you can do but keep them company until they go back down.
Since I didn’t make it in for cardio, I also didn’t make it in for a weigh-in. I tried today, but there were no personal trainers available to let me in to use the body composition scale. There were after my workout, but by that point my water is all out of whack between what I’ve consumed and what I’ve sweat out that the results would be nearly meaningless. From now on I’m just going to pick a day and weigh myself on my home scale. The trick will be keeping the time of day consistent week to week.
As for today’s workout, it was no lines, no waiting at the rack. Straight into working out, which is always nice.
Squats are definitely getting harder (insert broken record comments here) but I’m not near the point where I think I’ll fail a set. My heart rate is elevated after sets now, so that’s good, and I’m giving myself a bit of extra time between sets, but not much. I’m really hoping to get back up near where I was (215 lbs) before failure becomes a possibility. I’m just over a third of the way back there now, and should hopefully be back up there by this time next month.
Bench press is still easy enough that I don’t need to wait the full 90 seconds between sets. It’s getting to be more of a workout, but I’m looking forward to getting those 35 and then 45 lb plates back on the bar. Dinky little 25 and 10 lb plates don’t feel like enough, but I know that’s just vanity talking. Must… lift… bigger… weights… *manly grunting sounds*
I think I’m actually making progress on maintaining good form on barbell row. The lower weight has been useful, and I can tell when I’m getting out of position, or rolling my back. Hopefully I can keep it up as the weight goes up.
I likely won’t be able to work out Monday, as we have important visitors at work around lunchtime, and our company is taking us to the movies in the afternoon to let us see some of our latest work, the VFX in the final Resident Evil movie. I’ll be back to the gym on Tuesday for sure, though. See you then.
