Back to the gym today. I really meant to go back on Friday, but after my first workout in a month on Wednesday, my legs were so sore that I could barely crouch, let alone squat. I was seriously walking like an old man til about Sunday, so hitting the gym would’ve been pointless.
Pleased to say that squats seemed easier today at 150 lbs than they did on Wednesday at 145 lbs. They still felt tough, and I could really feel them in my glutes, but I don’t think I’m going to be as sore after this workout as I was last week. If the next workout goes as well, I might try increasing my squat weight by 10 lbs instead of 5, but we’ll have to see how it goes.
Bench press, much like overhead press, seemed too easy at the lower weight. I guess that means I used my upper body more than my legs over the month away from the gym (lifting kids is a workout in and of itself). I might go up 10 lbs on the bench press as well, just to see if I can do it. I suspect I can. After that I’ll continue to go back up by fives, though.
Barbell row was okay. Not too tough, but the lowered weight meant using smaller plates on the barbell, so I had to crouch lower to start. I guess it’s good practice for my form. Next time will be with 25 lb plates instead of a couple of 10s, so I’ll be starting slightly higher up. I did notice I got a bit dizzy standing back up after each set, so that’s something to watch for in the future. Probably just not used to it anymore. It was kind of the same thing I was feeling after deadlifts on Wednesday.
Going to try and do a cardio day tomorrow if my lungs will let me. If I start hacking and coughing I’ll call it off, though. See you tomorrow.
