Fit Report – Jan. 11th, 2017 – 5×5 Workout B

Hey there stranger, it’s been a while.

In fact, my 5×5 app informed me today that it’s been just a few days shy of a month since I last worked out. Ugh.

I guess I should explain myself. A week before Christmas I got some sort of bug, which took me out of commission for a bit. Then Christmas happened, and we were away for a few days. Two days after Christmas the whole family came down with some sort of virus, and I’m still not completely over that even now (I still cough a lot). I actually, the last time I weighed myself at home, lost five pounds while I was sick (probably muscle and water…), putting me at 157. I haven’t weighed myself since then, and the 5×5 image reflects my pre-sickness weight.

Still, I finally felt good enough to go in to the gym today, so hopefully I’m fully back on the wagon here. Like I said, however, the 5×5 app noticed I’d been away from the gym for so long, and it recommended I deload by a whopping 30%. 

Looking at those paltry weight numbers, I was a bit annoyed at how low they were, and just 5x5_B_0030how long it’s going to take me to get back to where I was. Sadly, though, after doing the workout I realize that those weights needed to drop that low. I’ve lost a lot of strength over the last month.

Squats at 145 lbs wasn’t hard, but it wasn’t a cakewalk either. I could feel it in my quads, and surprisingly in my ankles. My legs actually felt rubbery walking down the gym stairs after my workout, and I just know I’m going to be sore tomorrow.

Overhead press felt much easier. I may actually go up ten lbs on that one next time instead of only five, since I didn’t struggle with it.

Deadlifts seemed easy at 160 lbs, but upon finishing them I felt slightly dizzy, and nauseous, and got a bit of a cold sweat going for a couple of minutes. It didn’t last long, but it was enough to convince me I should take my time getting back up to max weight. Since I’m back into the territory where it originally had me going up 10 lbs per workout, I’m planning on doing that for a little while, but if it gets to be too much too fast, I’ll scale back to 5.

I would go in tomorrow for a cardio day, but I just don’t think my lungs/throat are up to it just yet, so I’ll wait and do 5×5 Workout A on Friday. Hopefully I can get back to cardio next week.
