Changing things up a bit this week. Maybe it’s just me, but I think I was getting funny looks from the gym staff when I was going in for two minutes on Thursdays just to weigh myself. And besides, it’s kind of a waste of time to get changed, go to the gym, come back and get changed again, and then have to go get lunch after all of that. Eats into my lunch break on what should be a rest day. So now that I’ve weighed in a day early, what are the results?
Well, neither up nor down from last week, for starters. But although the weight is the same, my water is also up for the second week in a row. Makes me wonder if maybe my lower weight readings from a few weeks ago were dehydration. My body water is up 2.4 lbs from where it was two weeks ago, so maybe I was. That extra water is making the scale show a Fat Free Mass that’s 3.2 lbs higher than that weigh-in, a Body Fat % that’s 1.2 percentage points lower, and Fat Mass 1.6 lbs lower as well.
As far as I know, I’m still heading in the right direction, even if the number on the scale isn’t moving. We’ll have to see what next week says.
But enough about my weight, on to my workout. Happy to say it wasn’t quite as failful as Monday’s workout, but it still wasn’t a home run, either. While I managed to do four complete sets of squats on my third attempt at 185 lbs, I only managed four reps in the fifth set, which means I failed squats three times in a row. Which means I have to deload back down to 165 lbs for next time and work my way back up. If I’m honest with myself, while I really wanted to get that last rep in, I’m not really upset at the prospect of deloading next time. Squats have become really hard, and my legs are always so tired anymore, so it’ll be nice to lighten the load for a couple of weeks.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; bench press is getting tough. I definitely need to rest between sets now, and I’m thinking I’m only a workout or two off of failing a set. Bench is the last remaining holdout for complete sets, and I’m thinking it’s going to join the club soon enough. But that’s for the future. Today’s sets were good, and felt like a good workout.
Barbell row felt good today, too. I actually managed to consistently finish sets on them today, although I couldn’t manage it on the last set. I actually lifted the weight on the fifth rep, but it didn’t come all the way up to my chest/stomach, so I’m counting it as a failed rep. I’ll stick with 125 lbs for next time (which will be the same as my bench press, oddly enough. If I don’t make it then, though, it’ll be deload time for barbell row as well. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.
See you on Friday for Workout B.
