Up 0.6 lbs from last week, and while that’s a bummer, I’m pretty sure that it’s because I drank most of a litre of liquid more this morning than I usually do. I don’t think I’ve actually gained fat, to be sure, so I’m not going to sweat this blip.
Speaking of sweat, though, damn is it hot and humid here right now. My morning and evening bike rides are leaving me fairly drenched (thank goodness for desk fans and a change of clothes). Not sure yet if those bike rides are affecting me at the gym, but man, today’s workout seemed to require more effort than the last one.
Squats were strenuous today, for sure. Maybe my legs are tired from biking, or maybe I’m just reaching a weight that’s nearing my current max. I still didn’t feel like I was going to fail to complete any of the sets, but I definitely felt like I had to push myself more than before. I’m hoping my core strength improves as I do this, because I can certainly feel myself wobbling a bit as I go down into the squat.
Overhead press, on the other hand, was actually difficult. I had to work to complete each set. I managed it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if next time I do them I end up failing a set or two. That exercise is getting tough. It’s not to the point where I’m really straining at it (and making all the noises that accompany that), but I’m guessing I’m not far off now. Like I’ve said before, my shoulders aren’t my strongest muscles (and of course they’ve given me trouble in the past), so it makes sense that they’re going to need the most work.
Deadlifts also seemed harder than the last time, but given that I go up 10 lbs every time with those, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. They weren’t terribly difficult, but I could feel it in my lower back and legs while I did them, and it was harder to maintain posture. Still, I don’t think I’ll be failing that one in the next few weeks.
