Fit Report – Feb. 16th, 2016 – Physio/Core

I wasn’t entirely sure I’d be able to make it to the gym today. Last night I started getting a prickly sensation in my sinuses as well as a headache, and I was halfway sure I’d be in full-on cold mode this morning when I woke up, but fortunately, that’s not the case.

I did make it to the gym, and overall had a good go of it. My running warmup seemed a bit tough (my breathing was ragged), but doable. My physio/core exercises went okay as well, mostly. I increased the weight I’m lifting on my Arnold presses to 12.5 lbs per arm (up from 10) without too much difficulty. I could feel the extra weight in my left shoulder, though, so I’m not going to just jump to 15 lbs next workout. I’ll keep it the way it is for a while, let the shoulder adjust.

FR0061What surprised me, though, is that even with four days between my last physio/core day and today, I still failed miserably at my plank. I kept the increased duration on my side planks, and all of my other exercises were the same as last time as well, but at about the 45 second mark, my core muscles (mainly my abs) started feeling like they were cramping. It was actually somewhat painful, although I don’t think anything is injured. I managed to increase my plank time by 10 seconds over Thursday, but I’m nowhere near the 2.5 minutes I was only a week ago. It’s frustrating, to say the least. I guess I’m starting over a bit, due to the increase in the side planks? Maybe? Who knows…
