Where Has The Time Gone?

One month! Unbelievable! Our little girl is one whole month old today!

I swear it seems like just the other day we were bringing her home from the hospital and wondering if we were going to be able to handle this new, wonderful, scary responsibility in our lives. (To be honest, sometimes I still wonder.)

So much has changed about her in that time, though. She’s put on a couple of pounds and grown about an inch and change. She’s fitting into some clothes that were too big for her when she came home, and outgrown a couple of outfits that fit better at the start. It’s true what people say about not going nuts buying newborn clothes. You’re lucky if they get to wear things more than a few times before they outgrow them. She’s graduated from newborn diapers into Size 1(and is going through a tonne of them).

She’s having more alert periods, and is getting better at focusing on faces and objects (although she still goes a bit cross-eyed when she’s concentrating too hard on something in front of her πŸ˜‰ ). Β She follows faces and turns toward voices when we Skype or FaceTime with her grandparents.

She’s pretty active sometimes, too. When we set her on her play mat, she kicks and waves her little arms around, checking out the bright colours and her reflection in the mirror. She’s also taken a liking to being held upright in our laps, supported under the arms while she kicks out her legs and pushes herself up. Her little legs are so strong (and they should be, considering how much she kicked in the womb)!

She has her good nights and bad nights when it comes to sleeping. Growth spurts are tough when she wants to be fed every hour, but we’re getting by. Can’t wait until she starts sleeping for 4-5 hour stretches, though!

This past month has flown by. It’s both the hardest thing we’ve ever done, and the most amazing. I can’t wait to see what the next month brings!

She's the cutest little meatloaf! You and Fishie are doing amazing. You're both earth mom and dad in my books.

    • Greg says:

Pfffft, we sometimes refer to the cats as meatloaf, never thought to call her that. And I don't know if I really qualify in the 'earth parent' category, but thanks. πŸ˜‰

What a babydoll. Oh, my. Those dark eyes and that hair! You’re such a proud poppa πŸ™‚ I’m sure it was hard to get back to work, wasn’t it? How is your wife doing without you? Nice thing though is that you probably count the hours to get back home again. I can’t believe it’s been a month! (sorry, thoughts scattered all over the place – she’s got me mesmerized, I think πŸ˜‰

Isn’t she lovely? πŸ™‚ I am a proud poppa, could you tell? Yeah, it’s hard not seeing her all day, but it is nice to get home. It’s been a bit of an adjustment for my wife this week, especially since Lily is going through a bit of a fussy period, but she’s holding up okay.

She is so lovely! Glad to hear all is well still. πŸ™‚

Thanks, Mary! Yup, we’re moving right along over here. I find myself wishing some things would speed up while others would slow down. Just glad she’s healthy and (mostly) happy!

    Shes adorable mate!

Thank you so much for the presents. I really wasn’t expecting anything in return! It seriously made my day and I couldn’t wait until the morning to have some with pancakes. I’ve just eaten some now. It tastes SO good!!!! I will try the oatmeal suggestion and maybe the french toast (i’ll have to look up how to make it cos ive only ever had it in the US).

    • Greg says:

French toast is easy. Mix up a couple of eggs with a splash of milk, and maybe some cinnamon or vanilla. Dip bread in the mixture and fry it on each side just until it starts to get golden brown. Works best with white bread. Glad you liked the syrup and candies! πŸ™‚
